The old town of Mortimer was once a thriving community of nearly 800 people, mostly employed by the Ritter Lumber Company in the early 1900′s. The entire town was wiped out by a huge flood that washed essentially the entire town downstream to the Brown Mountain Beach. Apollo has been eager to see the remains of the original cotton mill and remnants of the boilers and old structures still left standing.

Nothing beats a kick ass evening campfire at the Mortimer Recreation Area. Lucky for us the Nature Conservancy purchased up all the land for public use.
